Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Houston Cougars

CFB: 3:30 PM EST

Oct. 12, 2019

TV: ESPN2
Latest Odds : CIN -7.5 O/U 51.5

The Cincinnati Bearcats enter this week after an upset win over UCF who at the time was ranked 18th. The win improved the Bearcats record to 4-1 on the season and found themselves inside the Top 25. Cincinnati also has wins over UCLA, Miami(OH), and a blowout road win at Marshall. The lone loss was at Ohio State. The Houston Cougars come into this AAC contest with a record of 2-3. This is a Cougars team that has already faced two opponents that were ranked at the time in Oklahoma and Washington State. The Cougars would lose both of those games. Houston has wins over Prairie View A&M and a road win at North Texas.

Cincinnati is led by Desmond Ridder on offense who has thrown for 964 yds and 10 TD’s on the season. The Bearcats like to rush the ball as they already have 223 rushing attempts on the season. The backfield is guided by junior Michael Warren II. He has 395 rushing yards and has found the goal line on the ground 4 times, while adding one touchdown reception as well. Ridder has been sacked 12 times this season.

The Bearcats defensively have 5 takeaways and have 13 sacks. The Bearcats have linebacker Michael Pitts and defensive end Malik Vann to thank for over half of the sacks. Pitts has 4 sacks and Vann has 3 sacks, respectively.

The Houston Cougars offense is guided by dual threat quarterback D’Eriq King. King has completed just over 50% of his pass attempts for 663 yds. King has 12 total TD’s on the season, 6 passing and 6 rushing. He has just over 300 rushing yds on the season. The Cougars only have two players with double digit receptions. Marquez Stevenson has 24 receptions for 298 yds and 3 TD’s. Keith Corbin has added 11 receptions for 192 yds and 2 scores. Houston quarterbacks have been sacked 14 times this season.

Houston on the defensive side of the ball has sacked opponents 10 times, while forcing only 2 takeaways. The Cougars are led by junior safety Grant Stuard and junior defensive linemen David Anenih . Stuard has 44 tackles to go along with one sack. Avenih has been able to get to opposing quarterbacks for 4.5 sacks this season. He also has added 16 tackles and has a forced fumble.

Recent Betting Trends:

Cincinnati and Houston have split the series 2-2 since joining the AAC.

Houston leads the series all time 15-10.

The under is 13-5-1 since 2016 when the Bearcats are on the road

The under is 12-7 when Houston is a home team since 2016.

Free Betting Pick: Under 51.5

While I think Cincinnati’s head coach Luke Fickell will have his team hyped up and prepared for the Cougars to cover the spread, I really like the under in this game more. The trends show the percentages favorite the under. However, it’s the offensive lines that scares me in this game for both teams. Both teams have combined to allow 26 sacks on the season. Defensively both teams have combined to sack opposing quarterbacks 23 times. I think that both defenses are able to get to each quarterback in key situations that will stall some of the drives. Also, Houston does not have much passing offense so far this season and I think the Houston offense will milk the clock with the amount of times they will rush the ball. Final score prediction Cincinnati wins 28-17.
