Houston Baptist Huskies vs. North Texas Mean Green

CFB: 7:30 PM EST

Sep. 05, 2020

TV: ESPN3
Latest Odds : UNT -27.5 Total 67

Houston Baptist is heading into the game here to play in their non-conference games only. Now that may seem like a little bit of a shocker, but the Southland conference followed suit of so many other conferences this year to postpone their conference games until Spring. Now, the Huskies do have some wiggle room in the fact that they can play in the nonconference games.

The Huskies do have Bailey Zappe coming back this year. Last season Zappe managed to throw a total of 3811 yards and ended up with 35 touchdowns, but was picked off 15 times. Dreshawn Minnieweather is coming back for the Hukies as well. Last year Minnieweather carried the ball 105 times for 723 yards and 7 touchdowns.

This year the Mean Green will be playing some decent games, but the Mean Green are a team that should have the chance to make a good run on the year. The Mean Green even managed to get Detraveon Brown this year and he was one of the highly touted recruits for the team.

One aspect of play that the Mean Green have to do is try to figure out who will guide the team. They lost Fine last year who threw for 3088 yards. The leader for the team outside of Fine is Jason Bean, the sophomore, who threw for 176 yards with 3 touchdowns, but he was picked off 3 times. Tre Siggers is coming back on the year for North Texas. Last season Siggers carried the ball 152 times for 853 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The Mean Green are coming in looking for a new quarterback, but facing the Huskies the Mean Green will not be as hard pressed. Look for the pressure of the Mean Green rushing attack to allow the quarterback to settle into the game here and that will eventually lead to the Mean Green wearing down the Houston Baptist defense and lock down the win. Final Score, North Texas Mean Green win, but fail to cover 35-14.
