The Miami (OH) Redhawks visit Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday August 31 to play the No. 20 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in the season opener of the college football regular season for both.
The Redhawks finished their 2018 season 6-6 and will have inexperienced Jackson Williamson at quarterback but Brett Gabbert a freshman could see time early as well. Maurice Thomas will take over as the top running back, while three starters return from the offensive line and top receivers Jack Sorenson and Luke Mayock are back. The defense returns seven starters and should be the strength of the squad.
Iowa returns a solid offense and one of the stingiest defenses from 2018. Nate Stanley has quietly become one of the Big Ten’s top quarterbacks. Stanley lost two tight ends to the NFL, but will have Brandon Smith and Ihmir Smith-Marsette back at wide receiver. The Hawkeyes return their top three running backs from last season. The offensive line will have both starting tackles returning and experienced backups. The defense will be strong in the trenches and plenty of experience at linebacker but the secondary must replace its best player of last season Amani Hooker.

Starting quarterback Jackson Williamson did not play for Miami (OH) last season. The top running back returning from a season ago is Maurice Thomas who rushed for 233 yards and one touchdown. The leading receiver back from 2018 is Jack Sorenson who caught 53 passes for 742 yards and two touchdowns. Also returning is Luke Mayock who caught 22 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns.
