TV: ESPN
Latest Odds : OHIO -1 Total 59

The Ohio Bobcats visit Kelly Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan on Wednesday to play the Central Michigan Chippewas in the opening game of the regular season and Mid-American Conference for both. Ohio has been bowl eligible for the last 11 consecutive seasons and has won three consecutive bowl games. The biggest loss for Ohio is quarterback Nathan Rourke, but Armani Rogers transferred from UNLV and is a dual-threat under center who will create problems for opposing offenses.

Several running backs including O’Shaan Allison and Julian Ross return for the Bobcats as do experienced wide receivers Cameron Odom, Isaiah Cox and Shane Hooks. Defensively the majority of starters return from last season. The defensive line and linebackers return Kai Caesar, Denzel Daxon, Jared Dorsa, Keye Thompson and Jack McCrory. Jamal Hudson leads the returning members of a defensive secondary along with Jarren Hampton and brothers Ilyaas and Xavior Motley. The Ohio defense should be as good if not better than last season.

Last season the Central Michigan Chippewas finished 8-6 overall but lost the Mid-American Conference Championship game and the New Mexico Bowl. The running game will be led by Lou Nichols III, and true freshman Christian Brown and Zahir Swann. The expected starter at quarterback will be David Moore, but that could be handed off to Quinten Dormady if an appeal related to a six-game suspension is not won. The wide receiver corps will have Kahil Pimpleton and JaCorey Sullivan. Tyrone Scott, who is the fastest of all receivers, returns as well.

The Central Michigan defense lost several key players to the NFL. returning to secure the defensive line will be LaQuan Johnson and Robi Stuart along with transfer Mohammed Diallo from Texas A&M. The linebackers will be led by Troy Brown and Troy Hairston as well as George Douglas and Chuck Jones. The defensive secondary is completely different than last season led by Iowa State transfer Richard Bowens III and Florida transfer Brian Edwards. Brandon Brown and Darris Bracey played last season and will also return.

Free Betting Pick: Ohio Bobcats -1

Ohio along with Buffalo and Miami (Ohio) are the favorites to win the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats biggest question mark starting the season is replacing quarterback Nathan Rourke, but UNLV transfer Armani Rogers should fill in seamlessly. The Bobcat defense is nearly identical to last season and will keep Ohio in games against their toughest competitors and will keep lesser quality opponents such as Central Michigan out of the end zone. Final Score Prediction, Ohio Bobcats win 37-17
