The Virginia Tech Hokies visit Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts on August 31 to play the Boston College Eagles in the college football regular season opener for both.

Last season Virginia Tech finished 5-7 which was a drop from its 9-4 record of 2017. Justin Fuente returns for his fourth season as the Hokies head coach. Virginia Tech will have starting quarterback Ryan Willis back, while Stephen Peoples will start at tailback and the top receivers back are Damon Hazelton and Tre Turner. The top returning player on defense will by linebacker Rayshard Ashby who led the Hokies in tackles with 105. Safety Reggie Floyd will lead a strong secondary for Virginia Tech.

Last season the Eagles finished 7-5. Steven Addazio returns for his seventh season as head coach of the Eagles. High expectations reins in Boston as the Eagles return several starters on both sides of the ball including quarterback Anthony Brown, running back A.J. Dillion and receiver Kobay White. Boston College replaced most of the defense, but Tanner Karafa, Isaiah McDufflie, Brandon Sebastian and Max Richardson all return. The defensive line is the weak link and must find stoppers or opponents will run all game against the Eagles.

Free Betting Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies -3.5

Both Virginia Tech and Boston College have several skill position players returning from last season, but each will have its share of rebuilding to do on the defense. Virginia Tech’s defense has its leader Rayshard Ashby back at linebacker, while Boston College lost nearly its entire defensive line and will find it hard to stop the run and pressure the quarterback. Lay the points and take the chalk. Final Score Prediction, Virginia Tech Hokies win and cover ATS 31-23
