The Pirates and the Reds are going to kick off opening day in Cincinnati. What is going to be interesting for the Pirates is to see how the lineup is going to hold steady as they are coming into the game with some questions as to how lingering injuries are going to impact the team. One of the main offensive threats for the Pirates could find himself doing minor league rehab to start the year off as Gregory Polanco is still recovering from his shoulder surgery.

The pitcher the Pirates are planning on sending out to the mound in this game is Jameson Taillon. Taillon is a 4 year veteran and is making his first opening day start here. During his career Taillon has managed to pick up a 21-21 record, struck out 389 batters, and has posted a 3.63 ERA on his career so far.

The Reds injury bug is already coming back this year. The part that cost the Reds so much last season, outside of horrible pitching, is coming back strong as Scooter Gennett has already been told he will miss 8 to 12 weeks with a strained right groin. What else is going to hurt the Reds out in this game is the depth is not present on the roster that they would have liked to have had and that is after some big name signings in the off season.

The Reds are planning on sending out Luis Castillo to the mound in this game here. What is surprising is Castillo was not expecting to get the opening day nod and that could lead to him having quite a few jitters in the game. Castillo has managed to post a 13-19 record on his young career, but he has struck out 263 batters in his career, and has posted a 3.89 ERA.

The Reds struggled in the spring training ball and the Reds are already battling injuries on the season. What else does not help the Reds out is the pitching staff is not really going to be whole and Castillo is a young pitcher who is not even near the five hundred mark as a starter, but gets the nod. Look for Castillo to do decent, but he is outmatched by Taillon in this game. Final Score, Pittsburgh Pirates win 6-2.
