Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs

TV: NFL
Latest Odds : KC -3.5 Total 36

The Cincinnati Bengals visit Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday to play the opening game of the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cincinnati starts the Zac Taylor era this season as Taylor takes the reins from the departed Marvin Lewis. Wide out A.J. Green is sidelined for this game with an injury and much of the offensive attention will be on other wide receivers Cody Core, Alex Erickson and Auden Tate. Ryan Finley and Jeff Driskel will each see playing time as they battle to be starting quarterback Andy Dalton’s backup.

Defensively, Cincinnati will be interested in seeing how well Carl Lawson has recuperated from ACL surgery. The Bengals need to find a better combination of players than last season when they finished last in the league in yards allowed and third-down percentage. Taylor hired Lou Anaruno as the defensive coordinator and he will have Geno Atkins, Jessie Bates and Carlos Dunlap anchoring the defense but missing pieces on the line, amongst the linebacker and the secondary must be addressed.

Kansas City starts its second season with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The offense is largely intact from last season, although attention will be put on the running game as Darrell Williams, Darwin Thompson and Carlos Hyde will all be looking for playing time. Mahomes will see little if any action in this Week 1 matchup, as the Chiefs’ backup quarterbacks will share most of the action.

Andy Reid overhauled most of the Chiefs defensive coaching staff with Britt Reid the only coach from that side of the ball returning. Steve Spagnuolo was hired as the new defensive coordinator and Brendan Daly will be the DL coach. Frank Clark and Tyrann Mathieu give leadership to the defense but both will not see much action. Kansas City linebackers Reggie Ragland, Anthony Hitchens and Dorian O’Daniel will see plenty of playing time while the secondary will have players vying for backup roles in a unit that largely is intact from last season.

Free Betting Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -3.5

Cincinnati will be working on an entirely new system with a new head coach and new coordinators. Kansas City has a new defensive coordinator but returns an offense that is largely intact from last season. Do not expect star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to contribute much, but the Chiefs offense will prove too much for the Bengals new defensive schemes. Final Score Prediction, Kansas City Chiefs win and cover ATS 24-13
