Minnesota Wild vs. Los Angeles Kings

NHL: 10:00 PM EST

Jan. 14, 2021

TV: NA
Latest Odds : MIN -120 Total 5.5

The Wild would like to show that they are able to improve off of the struggles they experienced last year. During the season last year Minnesota scored 3.16 goals per game and converted on the power play at 21.3% on the year. Defensively the Wild allowed 3.14 goals per game and only killed off 77.2% of the power plays faced.

Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are projected to be back for the Wild on the year. However, both Suter and Parise are pushing the mid-30’s so their play may start to fall off on the year. The other thing that could end up plaguing the Wild is the fact that Dubnyk is not on the roster and Minnesota has to break in Cam Talbot.

The Kings cannot really go down any further than what they did last year. The offense for the Kings only ended up with 2.53 goals per game last year with a power play conversion of 17.1%. The defense for Los Angeles allowed 2.99 goals a game. When it comes to the penalty kill the Kings ended up killing off only 77.4% of the power plays.

The ageless Jeff Carter is coming back to the Kings on the season, but at 36 years of age the production from Carter could be limited. Something else that could be a challenge for the Kings will be the play of Jonathan Quick who is coming off of a couple of seasons that have seen him injured quite a bit and having some issues in keeping the puck out of the net.

Coming to the game here it will be hard to figure out which team will win. Both teams are relying on older star players and have some upcoming youth to support them, but it is definitely a challenge. Look for the Kings playing at their quasi home ice to make the difference in the game here as the Kings pull out a win in the game here in a low scoring again. Final Score, Los Angeles Kings win 2-1.
